Home Hide Cottage Birds & Wildlife Fishing Arthur Ransome & Boating Booking Booking

Being personally passionate about all things green and ethical we wanted to make sure that our holiday home reflected this and allowed our guests to stay in real comfort, but with a clean conscience.

Perhaps the most obvious sign is the 3.5kw solar panels that will boil your kettle, heat your shower and keep the bedrooms warm. When the sun is hiding (which it hardly ever does in Norfolk...) we obtain our electricity from Good Energy, which is the only 100% renewably powered provider in the UK. The cottage guide book even shows you how check how much electric we have made whilst you are there – if that’s the sort of thing that interests you.

For heat we have a Danish Morso wood burner, which is fed locally, sustainably felled wood that we bring down by boat ourselves. You’ll have all the wood you need at the cottage and lighting it is simplicity itself. Get it going again first thing in the morning you’ll be toasty by the time your coffee is ready. Then let it run all day and into the night – get it right and you should only need to light it once at the start of your stay. There are also electric heaters throughout the cottage, but the wood burner’s much nicer.

Where possible all the bedding and towels are made from organic & fair-trade cotton and the duvets are naturally filled for the very best night’s sleep. The welcome pack contains local, natural and often Organic products and all our cleaning products are natural; they are very effective, but do not harm the delicate aquatic environment that we are so close to.

It is possible to get to the cottage via public transport, although you will need to book a taxi for the last mile or so. We are ideally located for a cycling, kayaking or canoeing holiday and you are welcome to store your bikes or equipment in the shed.

For each booking we donate £5 to Love the Broads, a charity setup to fund conservation projects and support sustainable tourism across the Norfolk Broads.

Finally all our paper is recycled, all our printing done by those who care about the environment and we always, always turn the tap off when brushing our teeth!

If you can think of any other ways in which we can reduce the impact of our holiday cottage please do let us know using the comments sheet at the end of your stay.
